Create T.O.M.A. – What did you say?
Since starting my journey, my apprenticeship as an “Individual Capitalist” (as Penny Power – Ecademy.com suggests) back in late 2007, I have had the opportunity to meet and work with some of the best business minds on the planet. One in particular is known globally as “The Referral Master” – Geoff Kirkwood – http://www.geoffkirkwood.com.
A topic that Geoff and I have spent time discussing and exploring in recent times is the term T.O.M.A. So what is it and why is it important for small business to firstly, understand and then effectively utilise to ensure maximum value out of your marketing dollars.
My objective over the coming months is to discuss T.O.M.A, its benefits and how to implement in your Small Business.

What is T.O.M.A?
T.O.M.A stands for “Top of Mind Awareness”.
Unfortunately a common theme I continually see within the small business sector is the ongoing struggle to cut-through. The questions: “How can I ensure my organisation remains top-of-mind with my clients and prospects?” constantly comes up.
Below is a list of three (3) tips I believe small business owners need to live and breathe if they want to gain cut through from their marketing efforts. This is the starting point for creating T.O.M.A in your organisation:
- Find Your Niche!
- Find Your Niche!
- Find Your Niche!
In case I wasn’t clear enough you cannot create T.O.M.A without being niche. This is where it begins. So my suggestion is to spend some time on identifying and understanding your niche first, and then you can begin implementing strategies around T.O.M.A.
